Catapilla™ Assembly
To assemble a stacked Catapilla™ start by placing the Base upside down on top of a Body & use a bolt with washer to connect the units together through the centre hole of the Base - the bottom of the Body is the end that has 6 pilot holes drilled in to the end cap.
Turn the connected Base & Body units the right way up & then continue to connect the upper units from the inside of the Body through the top end cap, into the unit above & again into the end cap that has 6 pilot holes - the Lid is assembled using a single bolt through the top of the stacked Body.
If it’s difficult to locate the fixing between units you may have to apply some pressure to the top unit to squeeze the end caps together & close up the gap between units - this can happen when for instance coir carpet has a thicker than normal weave, which adds more thickness the height of the end caps.
If assembling on a hard floor place the enclosed Felt Discs under the connected Base & Body when lifting the unit into it’s final position - these are best laid out equi-distance from each other & inset from the edge slightly.
Single or two high units should have 6 feet installed into the 6 pre-drilled pilot marks that are set-out around the end caps of the bottom unit - you can add ballast into the bottom unit if required but we would always recommend using a Base if stability is a concern.
Never try to rotate the individual units when bolted together as this can damage the wrapped end detail - always unbolt the units then rotate them into position & then reconnect plus we also recommend un-assembling the units from the Base if you need to move your Catapilla™.
If you’re using a Ballast Body to assemble your Catapilla™ position the Ballast Body in its proposed position & fill with sand - you will need at least 40kg of ballast for a typical average sized single cat household but more can be added for multiple cats or larger cats noting that we would always recommend over doing the filling rather than under doing it to keep things safe.
The Ballast Body assembly is basically the same as the Base assembly but the units are connected through the bottom end cap, into the top of the unit below - Catapilla™ units that use a Ballast Body for assembly will also come with Twist Pile inserts that can be placed in compartments to cover the exposed centre fixing.
Like the Base assembled Catapilla™, never try to rotate the units when bolted together & never try to move the unit in its assembled state - if moving or relocating the Catapilla™ uninstall the separate units, move the Ballast Body unit by tilting it slightly & “walking” it carefully on its feet, then re-install the units.
If wall mounting your Catapilla™ assemble the Body & Nest units with 3 Feet installed equi-spaced into the pilot marks on the bottom unit then follow the Wall Mounted Tomcat & Fatcat installation instructions.
After a week or two you may see some movement between units when the Catapilla™ is in use - this will be because the wrapped end detail between units has compressed slightly so a quick turn of the bolts will tighten things up again.
After assembling your Catapilla™ give the unit a good vacuum inside & out to remove any loose fibres or sand, if using a Ballast unit.
We love hearing from customers & their cats on what they think of their Hicat® so feel free to get in touch & send a piccie or two.
