Subsonic Bobcat
We are about to plan one of our most interesting, some might say ludicrous, R&D projects to date involving a Bobcat that purrs & vibrates - some of our deepest & most peaceful nights sleeps have been curled up with our cats purring away so we want to see if a similar sound track has the same soothing effect on a cats senses.
About 5 years ago we had an idea to make a Bobcat that was also a bass bin, as part of a home cinema hifi setup, because the construction would really lend itself to this type of speaker enclosure - more recently we thought about designing a Hicat® that had a purring sound piped into it through a sub woofer speaker, again to see if a cat would respond to what we find very calming & relaxing.
This Friday afternoon was spent rethinking these ideas & after a bit of research we came across a device called a bass shaker, which is fed with an audio signal like a bass speaker but moves mass rather than air - the HiFi setup is pretty simple & would involve installing the shaker in the bottom of a Bobcat, which is attached via a speaker cable to an external mono channel amplifier & mini music player, like an iPod, that feeds a low bass purring audio track to the shaker.
Now we can’t stop thinking about this Hicat® R&D project & have just ordered the parts & will fabricate a sample Bobcat that has this creature comfort feature - after we’ve done our human sound check & safety testing we will need a feline audiophile to test this vibrating Bobcat so will keep everyone updated with progress.
