Coir Fading Test...

We set up a test before summer to see how our coir finishes fare in terms of fading after receiving some disappointing feedback from a customer - a unit made in a one off sample of a green bespoke coir finish has faded badly over a 3 year period, almost back to it’s original natural state, so we wanted to test our coir finishes to see if we could replicate this.

We left small samples of Bleached, Natural, Peat & Tatami finishes in direct sunlight behind glass to see how the batch dyed & bleached yarn finishes changed over a 10 month period - we thought that the bespoke finish that lost all of it’s colour was a badly dyed sample but coincidentally we’ve just heard from another customer who reported that their Concrete Coir Fatcat unit has faded back to more of a pre-dyed Natural Coir colour over the last six years as well.

As you can see from the photos below the treated swatches have faded so as mentioned in our Customer Notes we would avoid placing units in direct sunlight where possible but also need to note that batch dyed coir units may lose their colour over time as a matter of course even when not placed in direct sunlight - thank you to Ailsa & Jennifer for letting us know & apologies for the disappointment caused hoping that our Peat & Tatami Coir will be more resilient to this fading as it was a different batch dyed order to the Concrete & green bespoke coir finishes but only time will tell.
