Loved To Bits #10
Our tenth Loved To Bits project is a story of fun, fluff & fury - Jane got in touch after her cats had four years of fun on their Wall Mounted Polecat with the wear & tear resulting in a furry veil covering over the AVM Iron Wool unit.
The felting was particularly bad around the front & upper sections of the unit where Janes’s cats did most of their scratching with the back section being unscathed - we penciled in a date for the unit to come back to us so we could attempt to recover or make a new unit, in the fastest time possible, as Jane was adamant that her cats were going to be furious at the loss of their unit for hours, let alone days.
After inspecting the unit & carrying out some preliminary trimming is was apparent that under the fluffy exterior the carpet had not worn down to the backing & there was still a good covering of weave so we felt the unit could be re-used after some tidying up - we contacted Jane to run through this option, who agreed to giving it a whirl on the understanding that we removed as much of the stray fluff as possible as Jane’s cats had taken a liking to chewing the fibres.
Installing a new insert into the internal collar on the opposite side to the existing fixing also meant that the unit could be rotated & installed at 180º so that the unworn sections were now on show - we hope Jane’s cats get another few years out of their rejuvenated Love To Bits Polecat.
